September 5 - 6, 2008.  SCRID and Sorenson VRS welcomes you to PEER MENTORING AND SELF ANALYSIS at Ventura Unified School District, Education Service Center, Chrsta McAuliffe Room, 255 W. Stanley Ave., Ventura, CA  93001.  This is a multi-phase process involving identification and prioritization of knowledge/skill or performance gaps. This is followed by an exploration and determination of the cause for the gap. Without sufficiently identifying the root cause for a gap, any skill development activity conducted is addressing a symptom. To facilitate this work requires the development of a portfolio or video samples upon which to conduct the analysis. Probably the most essential component of the portfolio and of the self-assessment work is the language component and analysis. Too frequently the skill gaps experienced by interpreters are related to language use and only compounded by interpreting. This presentation will also elucidate the critical aspect of language analysis to improve interpreting skills. A foundational overview of peer mentoring and feedback within a peer-mentoring model will be described. The workshop will culminate in each participant leaving with a skill development activity to incorporate into their professional development plans. This final step will provide participants with an understanding of the development of meaningful, measurable, and maintainable skill enhancement activities as well as escalation techniques for closing skill gaps.  For more information, contact MicchaelM4scrid@gmail.com or visit www.scrid.org/PDC.htm.
