March 2, 2012.  Santa Monica College welcomes you to Visualize This: Drawing in Space with ASL Classifiers from 9 am to 4 pm at Santa Monica College, 1900 Pico Blvd, Santa Monica, CA  90405, Theater Arts Bldg., Room 102. Join us for an amazing workshop presented by Trix Bruce (www.TrixBruce.com).  Focus will be on breaking the habit of signing in English linear structure and instead quickly and artistically conveying concepts in ASL. Lots of hands-in practice. 0.6 CEUs offered. Cost for interpreters $65 (at the door cost $75), student cost $35 (at the door cost $45). Workshop presented in ASL. March 9-11, 2012. www.crossroadsolutioncoach.com welcomes you to Navigate ASL & Life World Retreat for Signers (Deaf & Hearing - ASL 3+) event_time: Friday, March 9 at 4:00 PM to Sunday March 11 at 2:00 PM.  Navigate ASL & Life World Retreat will be held at Oregon House, Yachats, OR, March 9 to 11, 2012. Thirteen hours or 1.3 RID CEUs will be offered for interpreters, and 14 hours of Professional Studies by Gallaudet University for ASL teachers and other professionals.  Participants will navigate and explore their untapped assets and abilities. Through this totally immerged signed environment, participants will strengthen their world knowledge and life perspectives. The program includes: meditation and relaxation, experiential, visualization exercises, life and language activities (ASL) and time for reflection.  This retreat is open to signers, including advanced sign language students (ASL 3+), interpreter students, interpreters, sign language teachers and potentials, professionals, family and community members who can sign, and deaf community members (Deaf, deaf and hard-of-hearing.)  The retreat program will be facilitated by two certified Deaf professionals:
Carole Lazorisak, Sign Language/Interpreter Master Mentor, New York City, Deborah S. Mayer, Life Coach, St. Louis, MO.  Early registration for the retreat program is $225 per person or $200 per student if registered by February 23, 2012. Lodging and organic meals will be provided at additional cost.  Space is limited to 12 participants. Early registration is highly recommended to reserve space. March 23-25, 2012.  PYRAM.com presents CERTIFIED DEAF INTERPRETER WORKSHOP.  March 23, Friday, 6 p.m.-9 p.m. (3 hours) March 24, Saturday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. (9 hours) March 25, Sunday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. (8 hours).  CSDR Conference Room 1, 3044 Horace Street, Riverside, CA 92506.  Are you Deaf? Are you interested in becoming a Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI)?  To obtain RID certification as a CDI, you must pass a written test and a performance test. To qualify to take the written test, you must have 8 hours of Ethics training on the RID Code of Professional Conduct and 8 hours of training on the Role & Function of a Deaf interpreter.  Jimmy Beldon, CDI, a nationally renowned CDI trainer and interpreter educator will present the RID required training and end the workshop with practicing for the written test. Workshop Requirements:  You must purchase So You Want to Be an Interpreter: An Introduction to Sign Language Interpreting by Janice Humphrey and Bob Alcorn.
