McElroy-Domingo Jayna Nastally Rolando Ochoa Don Potter Bill Rennie Keith Wann Gloria Williams John Yingst Sylvia Yingst Ava Barker has been involved with the Deaf community and interpreting since the mid 1980's. She has interpreted in grades ranging from k-12 for Long Beach Unified School District since 1994. She has also worked at Mt. San Antonio College, Santa Monica College, Long Beach City College, and currently works part time at Cerritos College. She is a certified member of RID and holds an NAD 3, EIPA 3, ESSE 4, and is a candidate to take the NIC interview and performance test. Julie Bradley has been interpreting since 1993 and is certified by RID. Currently, she is a full time Counselor for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students at Mt. San Antonio College as well as an instructor in the Mt. SAC Interpreter Training Program. Julie has been involved in coordinating, supervising and training interpreters for 10 years. Julie has a Bachelors Degree in Human Development from UC Riverside and a Masters Degree in Counseling from Cal State LA. Mary D’Ettorre currently works as the Communication Services Coordinator/Supervisor at Cerritos College in Norwalk, CA. She possesses over 20 years experience as an interpreter, and has lived first hand the challenges of ethical choices. Being a child of Deaf adults (CODA) gave Mary her ASL background. However, her dedication to the field and consistent determination to improve her skills is one of her strongest assets. Having passed the NIC written exam, Mary is currently training to take the NIC performance evaluation. Marjorie Foster: BA, RID: CI, CT Marjorie Foster is a RID certified interpreter with a Bachelor's degree in Deaf Studies. She has been working in the field for over 8 years in educational and freelance interpreting settings for numerous colleges, universities and agencies. She is an adjunct instructor at Antelope Valley College’s Interpreter Training Program and currently serves as Chair of the Student Representative Committee for the Southern California Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. Bonnie Gibson-Brydon: BA, ALSP; RID:CI, CT, NAD: V Bonnie Gibson-Brydon is a professional American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter who has been working in the profession for more than thirty years. For the last twelve years she has been the Executive Director of PULA Legal Interpreting Network (www.legalinterpreting.org), and for the last three years has been acting as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Mojave Deaf Services. Bonnie is a graduate of California State University Dominguez Hills with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in English. She is also a graduate of The University of Transformational Studies and Leadership at Agape, (ALSP). Professionally, she is nationally certified by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) with a Certificate of Interpretation (CI) and a Certificate of Transliteration (CT). Additionally, she carries the NAD: Level V – Master Certification. Bonnie is currently completing an additional RID certification-- that of Specialist Certificate: Legal (SC: L). Bonnie travels the U.S. as a workshop presenter and she is an awesome mentor who is thrilled to help instill confidence in novice interpreters as well as to help them achieve a higher level of skill. Antonio Goodwin, JD, MDiv, MA, CI/CT Antonio Goodwin is a dynamic national speaker. He gives workshops all over the country pertaining both to Sign language interpreting and Self-Empowerment. For more workshop information, go to www.antonigoodwin.com and www.getthemessageacross.com. He’s a graduate Vanderbilt University’s Law School and Divinity School, with a J.D. and M.Div. His M.A. in Ethnomusicology is from Indiana University. With his varied background, Antonio is an expert in the African American cultural aesthetic relative to religio-politico ethos and thought. Antonio also studied American Sign Language while at Indiana University. He has developed a theoretical application of performance theory to American Sign Language interpreting and has co-authored an article published in TheVIEWS Dec. 2004 edition. Antonio has his Certificate of Interpretation (CI) and Certificate of Transliteration (CT). Annie L. McElroy-Domingo, CI/CT Annie L. McElroy-Domingo is a Certified Interpreter who has been working in the field of Deafness for over twenty years. She began as an Educational Interpreter and now is working as a Post Secondary Interpreter and Freelance Interpreter. Annie worked as a Voice Interpreter at a local California high school, for five years. She has experience in various forms of interpreting. She was a staff interpreter for LiNKS Interpreting Service for three years. She was born abroad in Athens, Greece to two loving parents. Annie has no Deaf in her family. She became curious about the language while attending Del Vallejo Jr. High School in San Bernardino CA where she befriended an oral Deaf girl who did not use an interpreter. She then taught herself how to sign by reading books. In college, Annie worked at Camp Bloomfield in Malibu CA for five years. Camp Bloomfield, a camp for blind children and Deaf children was the event that changed Annie’s destiny. While working at Camp Bloomfield, Annie was able to improve her signing skills and she obtained her first interpreting job after her experience at camp. Since that first experience she has become a nationally certified interpreter through the RID and NAD. She is the former president of her local chapter of the National Alliance of Black Interpreters, Inc –NAOBI, Inc known as NAOBI –SoCal. Jayna Nastally, M.A. Rolando Ochoa is currently a part-time ASL tutor at Cerritos College where he also attends. He has recently volunteered as a helper at the Pasadena Rose Float Parade for the City of Downey. Rolando is from the city of San Salvador in El Salvador. Rolando was born Deaf from unknown causes. His parents sent him to the U.S. in 1974 and 18 years later he became an America citizen. Don Potter, B.A., CI, CT, NAD 5 Don Potter has taught ASL classes as well as all levels of Interpreting classes at CSUN, Saddleback College, Golden West College and Mt. San Antonio College. Prior teaching experience includes workshops for professional interpreters in Minnesota, Nevada, Toronto and California. Mr. Potter has over 20 years experience as a Sign Language Interpreter and has served on Advisory Boards for training programs at four different colleges. He was involved in the development of the RID National Written Test of Knowledge and has a co-developer of an interpreter assessment tool currently being used by agencies/schools in southern California. Bill Rennie is a well known ASL Instructor, interpreter trainer and deaf performer. He is the owner of the Sign Language Factory, which hosts a variety of ASL workshops and silent weekends throughout the year. Keith Wann, a child of deaf adults, is one of America’s funniest ASL comedians. Keith tours around the ASL Nation performing both of his one man shows “Watching Two Worlds Collide”. Keith has gone Hollywood and was filmed in some PEPSI commercials to build hype for the "Bob" commercial. Keith has worked solo and in collaboration with other great ASL artists bringing to stage Coda stories, Deaf culture, Improv, Sketch comedy, and ASL student bashing. Keith lives in Brooklyn, NY and works part-time as an interpreter certified CI CT and NIC:Master. Keith also completed a program at Julliard on interpreting Broadway plays.
Gloria Williams has been working as a professional
interpreter for nearly 20 years. She is the supervisor of interpreting
services at a California Community College. John Yingst is an adjunct instructor of Advanced American Sign Language classes at Golden West College and Santiago Canyon College. He also teaches Deaf Culture at GWC. He is also a Lab Technician at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Anaheim. He has a BA degree in Biology at Gallaudet University. He has a wife, Sylvia and two big children plus a son in law. Both he and his wife have taught the Annual Summer ASL workshops in Orange County since 1990. He also served on the boards for Southern California Recreation Association of the Deaf – Orange County and two churches: Catholic Deaf Community and Orange County Deaf Worship Center. Sylvia Yingst is currently an adjunct instructor for the American Sign Language classes at three different community colleges: Golden West College, Santa Ana College and Cerritos College. She has a B.A. degree in Human Services at California State University in Fullerton, CA. She and her husband, John have been hosting an Annual ASL workshop in the summers. Her husband is also teaching ASL classes. She is the mother of two grown-up children and has a new son in law.
