February 6, 2010. Antelope Valley College
welcomes you to TWO WORKSHOPS WITH BILL RENNIE. The first workshop is DEAF
IDIOMS from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. Always a Favorite! Learn signs that are
particular to the Deaf community. Bill uses his inspiring humor to
demonstrate how to use these signs that he grew up with. The second
workshop is SENTENCE STRUCTURE USING MODALS from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm.
Modals are signs that express the mood of a verb. In this workshop you
will learn the proper way to structure a sentence using modals and the facial
expression necessary for the meaning of the modal. The workshops will take
place at Antelope Valley College, 3041 West Ave. K., Lancaster, CA 93536
in ROOM LS2-139. The cost is $15.00 per workshop or $25.00 for both for
current AVC students. NON-AVC students cost is $25.00 per workshop or both
for just $45.00. At the door for everyone is $30.00 per workshop.
(RID CEUs are available for an additional $10.00 per workshop).
February 6, 2010. SCRID & CSUN presents SKILLS
AND STEPS FOR CERTIFIED DEAF INTERPRETING WORKSHOP from 8:30 am to 5 pm at CSUN,
18111 Nordhoff Street, Northridge, CA 91330. This all day workshop
will discuss the concept of Deaf Interpreting and what it takes to make it
successful. During the workshop, participants will review materials for CDI
Knowledge Testing. There will be an overview of expectations & preparations for
CDI tests, discussion of ethical matters, and some hands-on activities.
Presenter: Daniel Langholtz is a longtime colleague, consumer, friend, and
supporter of interpreters. Dan has a BA degree in social work from NTID/RIT, a
MA degree in social work from New York University, and is a licensed social
worker in California. He has been with the University of California Center on
Deafness in San Francisco for 27 years, doing both clinical work and training in
the area of mental health and deafness. Mr. Langholtz has a CDI and CLIP-R, and
works in a variety of settings such courts, medical and social within teams of
Deaf and Hearing interpreters for many years. He has been member of RID since
1976, served on Ethical Practices System, Mediation, Revision of Code of Ethics
now known as Code of Professional Conduct, Certificate Testing Development
Committees and most recently serving on Strategic Challenges Bylaws Review Task
Force (SCBRTF). He has provided workshop trainings. Payment Received: before 1/6
