May 20, 2010.  Deaf West Theater welcomes you to MY SISTER IN THIS HOUSE from 8 pm to 9:30 pm at Deaf West Theatre, 5114 Lankershim Blvd., North Hollywood, CA  91601. Deaf West Theatre is proud to present My Sister in This House, written by Wendy Kesselman and directed by Michael Unger. Inspired by a true incident in 1930s France, this haunting play explores class struggle, identity, and what happens when the need for connection and companionship is ignored and abused. The play is based on the true story of the Papin Sisters, who suffered through an abusive childhood and an estranged workplace in 1930s France. Their bizarre tale inspired many writers of the era, including Jean Genet and Jean Paul Sartre.  The themes of the play are accentuated by the unique theatrical experience that Deaf West Theatre is known for: here, deaf and hearing actors perform in a multilingual setting of American Sign Language, spoken English, and open captioning. The divide between the deaf and the hearing worlds provide added thematic weight to the world that the Papin Sisters live in. Join us for a thrilling, innovative evening of boundary-stretching theater.  Due to mature content, My Sister in This House is recommended for patrons 16-years-old and older.  Previews $15.  General Admission $25  For group sales and other production information, call 818-762-2773 V ; 866-954-2986 VP or email boxoffice@deafwest.orgther production information, call 818-762-2783 V ; 866-954-2986 VP or email boxoffice@deafwest.org
